Response to Brooklynscottish

-I consider myself to be a pretty knowledgeable person about football, i know a lot about The Premiership, La Liga, The Champions League, South American football, World Cups and MLS, even though i was born and raised in NY, i grew up with football and i have been supporting Liverpool since i was 6.

-I know and knew that Rafa was a good manager, I'm not saying i thought he was bad, what i meant was that i didn't think he had/has the attitude to win the Premiership, he is great in Europe but not so much in the Premiership.

-i know we are 8/9 into the new season but Manchester United started of slow, we had the opportunity, Chelsea went into a crisis early on and we had the chance to be even with Arsenal but we blew it by drawing against Pompey, Birmingham, should have drawn against Wigan and drew against Tottenham.
Along with Arsenal we had an easy start to the season and we blew it. What are we going to do from March 22-April 12 when we have Man United, Everton, Arsenal and Blackburn? I'm pissed that we are drawing against teams we should be beating and we can't win the prem with draws against Birmingham.

-On the bright side Arsenal have to finally leave London in the league and maybe being away from London they will drop points.

-I'm not of a short-term mindset, i have been a Liverpool fan since i was 6, I've been there through the good, the great, the bad and the horrible, i love Liverpool and i will follow them to League 2 if i have to and i will do it singing You'll Never Walk Alone, I've been waiting to win the title for years and until this season I've never complained, its just that like many other Liverpool fans i want The Premiership and i think we have the squad but Rafa doesn't know how to do it, and I'm frustrated.

-I would replace Rafa with Jose Mourinho (It will never happen), Junade Ramos, Luciano Spalletti, or Marcello Lippi, I don' think Rafa will be sacked and i don't think he should be yet, but if we don't win The Premiership, I do think he has to go.

The demands of modern football mean that managers are seldom given the opportunity to acclimatize, provide a club with continuity and build upon a previous season.

It is understandable when the media provides knee-jerk reactions and start dusting off the ‘crisis’ headlines - they have to sell newspapers, attract viewing figures and there’s nothing better than stoking controversy.

However, fans should surely not be so fickle. And I’m genuinely amazed that one should already be questioning Benitez’ tenure. That is not to say he is beyond reproach and there are genuine criticisms to be leveled at him but sacking? Come on…

“i didn't think he had/has the attitude to win the Premiership, he is great in Europe but not so much in the Premiership”

What is this attitude you talk of? It is apparent that Liverpool have not had the squad to compete over the course of a full season, but they have shown in cup competition, domestic and European, that they are more than equipped to contest.

Now that Benitez has been allowed the opportunity to spend, surely he should be offered the time for the team to gel, develop and build that much-required consistency.

“i know we are 8/9 into the new season but Manchester United started of slow, we had the opportunity, Chelsea went into a crisis early on and we had the chance to be even with Arsenal but we blew it by drawing against Pompey, Birmingham, should have drawn against Wigan and drew against Tottenham”

The opportunity to do what? You are 4pts behind Man Utd with a game in-hand and a point ahead of Chelsea with that outstanding game.

Ultimately no matter the performance, you didn’t lose at Wigan or at Aston Villa or at Sunderland. At least 2 of those away fixtures will prove tricky for other teams.

Portsmouth away will be a difficult fixture for all sides, as MU found out earlier this season. And Birmingham, yes an aberration but not the reason to call for the head of the manager.

“ i think we have the squad but Rafa doesn't know how to do it”

The squad is newly-assembled. You’re dismissing the abilities of your manager on the basis on 8 games.

With the obvious exception of Mourinho, what is there to suggest that any of those managers would be able to adapt to English football.

And how long would you give them to win the Premiership before demanding their departure?

See Ferguson & Wenger – managers who have been allowed to develop. Perhaps Benitez should be offered likewise.
